Tasting notes
An abundance of fresh fruit aromas along with saline, mineral and dry spice notes fill the nose. The fruit is darker in character to its neighbouring Ch. Berliquet (tasted alongside), but still straddles the red and black fruit spectrum nicely. The fruit is fantastically fresh. There is a wonderful equilibrium to the wine – while the fruit is pristine, there is no shortage of concentration and mid-palate roundness. The tannins are unbelievably fine, bringing an effortless, structural detail and depth to the wine, firming up on the finish, indicating there’s plenty more to give. The finish is extraordinarily long. This is exceptional, even for Ch. Canon.

68% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc. Dark, lustrous crimson. Fresh and contained and a wine concentrating on being a well-balanced drink rather than showing anything off. Lots to enjoy here and fairly soon too! (JR)
Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Sweet, dark, ripe and oaky but supported by pure, vibrant fruit. Firm, chewy, succulent, the tannins super-fine and elegant. An aromatic and subtle beauty with hidden power. (JH)
The 2020 Canon is very succinct on the nose, beautifully defined with extraordinarily pure red fruit laced with pressed violet and iris flower. The oak is perfectly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, fresh and almost citric, very vibrant and precise with a quite peppery finish. God made wine so that it can taste as good as this. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
