The 2011 The Bard is soft, floral and easygoing, with lovely bright red berry fruit. Wild flowers, savory herbs and mint add freshness to this pretty, nuanced wine. The 2011 is super-expressive and very pretty, but it is also a bit lithe. I wouldn't push my luck too much further with aging. All things considered, the Bard is a fine effort in this very challenging vintage.

A wonderful introduction to the Realm wines, the 2011 The Bard jumps from the glass with plums, mocha, espresso, licorice and melted road tar. This is an especially opulent, intense wine bursting with fruit. The racy, full-bodied finish holds considerable near term appeal. The 2011 is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot from a handful of top sites, including To Kalon and Dr. Crane.
Better than the 2011 Falstaff and Tempest, the 2011 The Bard exhibits round, supple tannins, moderate, medium-bodied richness, and plum, Asian spice and fruity notes. With easy charm and drinkability, it should last for 7-8 years. Tel. (707) 967-0227
