Tasting notes
One of the many stars in this range, the 2016 Syrah Vellutini Ranch is dark, sumptuous and exuberant. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice and menthol infuse a supple, racy Syrah long on class and personality. The purity of the fruit is striking, but it is the wine's impeccable balance that leaves the deepest impression. What a gorgeous wine this is.

Very deep, opaque purple-black in color, the 2016 Syrah Vellutini Ranch opens with aromas of bitter chocolate and violets with blueberry jam, blackberry and black cherry pie, boysenberry, olive and bacon fat—an incredible array of fruit and savory layers on the nose. Full-bodied and wonderfully concentrated in the mouth, it has very firm, ripe, grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity to lift the savory, evolving finish. Only 75 cases were made.

About the producer

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
