Tasting notes
Harvested between 22 and 23 Brix. Destemmed and crushed before pressing lightly. Fermentation with ambient yeasts in French oak. Unfined. Unfiltered. Medium verging on deep gold. Intensely ripe sweetcorn with cedary evident oak. You can feel the oak as a slight drying texture on the palate. Opulent, viscous and rich – old school. Caramel and butterscotch finish. While I’m tasting, vintner/proprietor Tor Kenward is talking about his love of white Rhônes and indeed, this is such a rich style of Chardonnay that it looks more like a white Rhône than a burgundy. Tasted out of bottle, the 2022 Chardonnay Cuvée Torchiana is a killer Chardonnay that readers should love, and moreover, it’s a prime example of all that a truly great Chardonnay can offer, including richness and concentration as well as vibrancy and purity. Ripe stone fruits, orange blossom, spicy wood, and honeyed flower notes all define the aromatics, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel and a great finish. I love it today yet wouldn't be surprised to see it evolve gracefully over the coming decade.
So creamy, lush and buttery, it’s an all-out ripe, mouth-filling and luxurious wine. Saturated in golden apples, poached pears, cream and vanilla bean on a full body. So broad, indulgent, luscious and lingering in the finish. Drink now or hold.
From a vineyard that has been part of the Tor lineup for almost 20 years, the 2022 Chardonnay Beresini Vineyard Cuvee Torchiana exhibits ripe citrus aromas akin to mandarin oranges and tangerines, with vanilla notes balanced by hints of lime and lemon. It's medium to full-bodied, streamlined and crisp but with a long, silky-textured finish.
