The 1990 Beau-Séjour Bécot was picked between 19 September and 3 October. It has a little more fruit on the nose compared to the 1989 Beau-Séjour Bécot: red cherries, strawberry, rose petals and a touch of sous-bois , conveying more tension than the preceding vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening: quite meaty in style, nicely judged acidity and fine cohesion; not complex but well balanced with an appealing savory finish that is imparted by the Cabernet Franc. This just has the edge of the 1989 and it should give another decade of pleasure. Tasted at the château.

Fully mature, the 1990 has a dark ruby/plum/garnet color, a spicy, oaky, vanillin, herbaceous, and black cherry-scented nose, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and a surprisingly long, structured finish, with impressive glycerin as well as fruit. Anticipated maturity: Now-2007. Last tasted, 11/01.
Impressive wine. Dark ruby color. Lovely aromas of raspberries, chocolate and flowers. Full-bodied and very chewy. Still holding back yet there's fruit under it all.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2003. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2000
