The 2014 Corton Rognet Grand Cru was still showing the touch of reduction that I noticed on the bottle tasted blind last year, though there is sufficient fruit underneath it. It just requires some time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced entry. This feels quite dense and solid, robust tannins forming a rigid spine, although there is plenty of red, lightly spiced, white pepper tinged fruit on the finish to maintain balance and pleasure. It just needs another couple of years in bottle. Tasted at Flint Wines’ Taupenot-Merme retrospective.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Corton Rognets Grand Cru, bottled under Diam 10, has just a very slight reduction on the nose, although it appears to gain more clarity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm, robust tannin, which is what I like to see in a Corton. With that firm backbone I can envisage this aging with aplomb over the next 10 to 15 years. This is a solid, very well-made wine from Romain Taupenot, even if it is surpassed by strong showings from his other 2014s tasted here. Tasted September 2017.

Bright dark red. Reticent red berry and spice aromas are complemented by an earthy element. At once sweet and penetrating, with firm acidity and savory minerality giving grip to the fine-grained flavors of red fruits, spices and peony. Finishes classically dry and vibrant, with a rising finish that stimulates the taste buds. This one may need a decade to reach peak drinkability.
