Tasting notes
The 2017 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo is surprisingly fresh despite the warm and dry conditions of the year. It wafts up with a darkly floral bouquet of dried black cherries and blackberries, accentuated by lavender, violets and white smoke. This is luxuriously round and enveloping, with juicy acidity as its guide. Ripe wild berry fruits swirl in the mouth. The 2017 tapers off long and structured, with sweet tannins that pepper the palate without slowing the wine’s momentum. Hints of black licorice fade slowly. This is a stunning and wonderfully balanced rendition of Titolo—it’s maturing beautifully.

Elena Fucci always comes out with some of my favorite wines from the Vulture volcano. Despite the heat of the vintage, the 2017 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo comes across as more closed and rigid at first. It takes a few moments to open in the glass and then becomes very generous and expressive. I can't help but recommend a few years in the cellar before you pop the cork. Black fruit is followed by inky tar, resin and asphalt. The Titolo is tightly rolled into one firmly textured and tightly knit expression that truly blossoms when it breathes.
Exuberant dark fruit rises from the glass here, redolent of morello cherries and balsamic vinegar. Thereâs bright herbal freshness, too. A similarly boisterous palate follows, full-bodied and nicely structured with some attractive acidity bite. Drink now.
