Paul Chanson was a great ambassador for the wines of France, and for Burgundy in particular. This Cuvée comes from old vines, which he bequeathed to the Hospices in 1974. Paul Chanson always used to say they were Pinots Blancs, rather than Chardonnay. They are planted on a prominent hillock adjoining Corton-Bressandes, on land most often carrying Pinots Noirs, and give fascinating wine, often with an aroma of quince 30% of the vines date from 1987, the balance from 1940’s. This cuvée is coming from a single plot of 0.28ha in the southernmost part of Vergennes, this climat used to belong to the Count of Vergennes, who was counselor of the King Louis XVI and signatory to the Treaty of Independence of the United States. This limestone and windy soil only composed by stones is ideal for chardonnay.
