Tasting notes
In 2021 L’Hetre is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, a much higher than usual proportion of Cabernet from tiny yields of 12hl/ha. There is an explosive nose of black fruits, kirsch, licorice and blueberries with notes of blood oranges and intense, iron-like minerality. The palate is very elegant with silky, well-rounded tannins, showing red fruits and ripe black cherries. The 2021 is quite floral with a touch of white pepper that is all held very well with good levels of acidity which are going to assist the wine’s graceful ageing. It is a very sophisticated, serious and stylish wine that tastes a lot more expensive than it is.
About the producer

Jacques Thienpont – owner of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, Le Pin – fell in love with the view from L’Hêtre when he first visited the property. He purchased the Côtes de Castillon estate, which offers a brilliant introduction to the Thienpont stable at an affordable pricepoint.
