Vinfolio, Nov 2023

Bouchard’s Chevalier-Montrachet is particularly special, as they own parcels on each of the vineyard’s four terraces, with an impressively substantial 2.24 hectares of the Grand Cru. It’s amazing how the 2022 manages to combine thrilling tension with notable delicacy and finesse, with orange blossom, toasted brioche and citrus fruit. It’s elegant with a supple, silken texture to the palate – flowing across the tongue and towards a seemingly never-ending finish. Frédéric Weber describes it as like peeling a tangerine, with the scented spray of the peel landing delicately on your palate.

Cask sample. Deeper colour in the glass than the Corton-Charlemagne, the wood is more obvious here than with the other grand cru. Lovely equilibrium on the palate with mineral notes, a line of lemon/lime, some tropical notes. This will age effortlessly for 5 years and drink well for many more. (AWH)

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is unusually textural and muscular for this bottling, delivering aromas of pear, yellow orchard fruit, buttery pastry, white flowers and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and layered palate that's rich and unctuous, with terrific depth at the core and a long, resonant finish.

15 months in barrel then 6 in foudre. Cask sample. The oak is a little more upfront here but not intrusive. Ripe citrus, lightly cedary. Deep, rich, mouth-watering. (JH)
