Tasting notes
Dark magenta. Vibrant cherry, black raspberry and candied flowers, plus a hint of blood orange and exotic spices, are highlighted on the incisive and finely detailed nose. Juicy and lithe on the palate, offering intense, mineral-accented red fruit, lavender, vanilla and baking spice flavors that stain the palate while showing no excess far. Closes extremely long and alluringly sweet, with a repeating floral note, polished tannins and a late touch of star anise.

The 2019 Gigondas Les Claux is one of the powerful yet elegant wines and offers a great bouquet of red and black fruits, graphite, crushed stone, and spice. It’s full-bodied and tannic and needs time, but the balance is spot on, the tannins are perfectly ripe and polished, and it has a gorgeous finish. Give it 2-4 years and enjoy over the following 15+
95% Grenache, 5% Syrah. Organic. Aged in oak barrels, 30% new. Barrel sample. Tasted blind. A little reductive on the nose – sweet fragrant spice. Round palate, lots of peppery spice and very fine and layered tannins. A savoury style with dark chocolate and lots of elegance. Wonderful purity of fruit will see this age effortlessly. (AC)
