Tasting notes
The 2020 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru has a bit of oak on the nose. A touch of seaweed infuses the red fruit. Maybe there's a bit of Brettanomyces here? The palate is muscular and bullish, with thick tannins and some extraction, but there is a lack of transparency and nerve on the finish that doesn't encourage the next sip. I just don't think this was a representative bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru comes from two parcels is 90% whole cluster. Brambly red berry fruit is mingling with black pepper, clove and touches of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with quite succulent tannins, more rondeur here than the other Volnays, plush and quite luxuriant wiht a sensual and very pure finish. Superb.
About the producer
