50% Marsanne (50 to 100 years old), 50% Roussanne (over 40 years old). La Côte, La Beylesse. 12 months in new and one-year-old barrels (Allier, Tronçais). Cask sample. Pale straw colour. Heady and rather glorious array of wild alpine flowers. Lovely stuff with great tension and a delightful excursion from the well-worn trails. Hint of fresh ginger too. Exciting! (JR)

50% Marsanne, 50% Roussanne. Aged for 12 months in oak. Tasted blind. Super-smoky oak influence on the nose, with a buttered popcorn flavour on the palate. Very artificial flavours, and the fruit has slunk off in defeat. (RH)
