Contains the grapes that would have gone into Colonnello because the crop was so shrunk by hail. 70% Romirasco with 15% of Cicala and Colonnello apiece, selected and blended pre fermentation. Dark ruby, medium intensity. Haunting, very complex bouquet and masses of acidity. Very refreshing but desperately needs food! Complex but tart. Really quite lightweight. (JR)

Aldo Conterno’s 1995 Barolo Riserva Granbussia displayed delicately perfumed aromatics along with attractive notes of black cherries, prunes, tobacco, cocoa, cedar and leather with a medium-bodied, slightly compact frame that is typical of this vintage. It showed enough underlying structure to make me think it will drink well for at least another five to seven years although it will never rival the best vintages of this wine.

The dense garnet/ruby-colored 1995 Barolo Gran Bussia offers classic scents of rose petals, melted asphalt, kirsch liqueur, and dried herbs. Sweet, full-bodied, and rich, it is a terrific effort for the vintage. The wine possesses ripe tannin as well as a huge finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2020.
