Tasting notes
The Bartolo Mascarello 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is an accessible wine with ready aromas of dark fruit, earth, dried cassis and rusty nail. The wine shows pretty varietal clarity, but the presentation is especially informal and easy in this vintage. Fruit for this wine is acquired from a vineyard site in Treiso (Barbaresco). This hot-vintage expression ends with hints of ripe fruit and cherry confit.

The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is sublime. Dark cherry, plum, lavender licorice and crushed flowers infuse the 2020 with striking detail. Fresh and vibrant, with terrific depth and character, the 2020 shows how captivating this vintage is. The Langhe Nebbiolo is made from purchased fruit sourced in Barbaresco, Treiso and Alba. It saw a relatively short ferment and was aged in cask for two years. It is essentially a Barbaresco in all but name, intentionally done in a forward, early drinking style.
Two years aged in cask. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Savoury, salty nose with fresh cherry and cranberry fruit underneath. Succulent and yet light of touch, but increasingly substantial on the finish. Long finish with delicious, long, crunchy tannins. (WS)
