Velier CEO Luca Gargano discovered the treasure trove of Caroni barrels in Trinidad in 2004, a year after it shuttered for good, and a year before it was demolished – sealing the cult distillery’s fate. Since 2005, Velier has been releasing a handful of Caroni bottlings onto the market each year. While Caroni was best known for their heavy rums, this is a light rum – produced with its column still. Distilled in 1982, this is a blend of eight barrels that spent 23 years gently maturing.
