What a pleasant surprise to taste the 1998 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Franco-Michet after all these years. I think I still have a case of this in one of my cellars. Silky, feminine and gracious, the 1998 has aged impeccably. Sweet red cherry, smoke and pipe tobacco are some of the many notes that grace this super-expressive, mid-weight Barolo. Readers looking for an under the radar gem in Cappellano Barolo will find it in the 1998.

I don't remember when I bought Cappellano's 1998 Barolo Pie Franco Otin Fiorin, but this is my one and only magnum. One of the most texturally pure and beautiful wines of the night, the 1998 shows all of its class and finesse.
About the producer
Serralunga d’Alba’s Cappellano is one of Barolo’s most legendary producers, producing ultra-traditional styles of Nebbiolo. Made famous by Teobaldo and now in the hands of his son Augusto, the estate is best known for its Barolo Piè Franco, a wine from ungrafted vines in the Gabutti Cru.
