Score 16.5/20 · Drink 2018-2022, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2018
Richard Kershaw is a pioneer of South African wine. Since his first vintage in 2012, his mission has been clear: to create South African wines with an innate sense of place. Richard selects and nurtures specific burgundian clones and his approach to winemaking is remarkably hands-off with no enzymes, yeasts, fining or filtration. Artisanal burgundian coopers were selected with 35% new oak and the remainder second and third fill. Proper stuff even if, as a Chardonnay, it is more difficult to stand out from the crowd. Well judged. Green, mealy, honey character – as intricate as a fine white burgundy. Lots to chew on at the end. (JR)
