(tasted from tank; made from nine-year-old vines): Pale-medium yellow. The nose shows riper yellow fruits than those of the basic village Meursault, along with a soupçon of honey. In a fatter, sweeter style but this very concentrated wine displays lovely leesy complexity and floral lift. The yield here was just 22 hectoliters per hectare, as this parcel was hit by the hailstorm in late June.

The 2014 Meursault Desirée 1er Cru has a lifted, fresh pear, green apple and quite saline bouquet with good delineation, if not the intensity of others. The palate is well balanced with good acidity, an uncomplicated Desirée with focus, moderate complexity and a pleasing, saline finish. It is a competent Meursault, albeit one without the fireworks or the chutzpah of the premier crus. As such, like the Clos de la Barre, it is a wine to approach in the flush of youth.

Small quantity of eight-year-old vines. Very charming and rich. Fun and early maturing. Not intense for the long term but a great restaurant wine! Dominique says he doesn’t usually give this to Brits because Clive Coates warned us off it. NB drinking dates. (JR)

(70% of the crop was lost to hail)_: Lemon zest and nutty oak on the nose. A captivating high-wire act of sweetness and acidity; perhaps a bit rougher-hewn than the village wine today but boasts plenty of fat.
