Mount Eden's 2009 Chardonnay Reserve boasts considerable depth and resonance. Graphite, smoke and butter add shades of dimension to the tropical, honeyed flavors. Even with its considerable oiliness and viscosity, the 2009 retains a gorgeous sense of energy. My impression is that the 2009 is likely to age at a slightly faster pace than some of the surrounding vintages, but in exchange it will drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the overall balance here is beyond impeccable.

The 2009 Chardonnay Reserve shows the Mount Eden style at its very best. A rich, seamless wine, the 2009 Reserve balances textural richness and elegance. Seemingly endless layers of fruit caress the palate in a silky, utterly polished Chardonnay that should drink well for at least 10-15 years. This is a magnificent showing from Mount Eden and proprietor Jeffrey Patterson.
