Greenish orange. Very zesty and racy. Not that sweet initially, with a burnt finish. Really lively. (JR)

From the best wartime vintage and in even better nick than the La Mission 1943 I'd been lucky enough to taste a few days before (Yquem really is indestructible). Dark ruby colour that offered few hints as to whether this was originally a red or a white wine (as so often with really mature bordeaux).Perfumed, rich, dense yet as finely etched as a jewel. Quite exceptional. So heady and yet with beautifully balanced freshness – even at 70 years old! (JR)
