Ch. Clos de Sarpe

This small Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate is a FINE+RARE favourite. Run by Maylis Marcenat, the fourth generation of her family to do so, the 3.7-hectare vineyard has old vines and limestone soils, producing wines of incredible freshness and great ageability.

Monsieur A. Ducarpe named his property on the Sarpe plateau Clos de Sarpe in 1897. Baron Henri du Foussat de Bogeron bought the vineyard in 1905, merging it with the vines of nearby Badette to create Ch.Haut-Sarpe.  Jean Beyney bought Clos de Sarpe in 1923, separating the original property from its neighbour again. The property has stayed in the Beyney family ever sis – passing to Jean’s son Yvan Beyney in 1952 and Yvan’s son Jean-Guy Beyney in 1986. Jean-Guy still owns the estate today but retired in 2021, handing Clos de Sarpe over to his niece, Maylis Marcenat.
