Clos du Mont-Olivet
The estate, run by the esteemed Sabon family, can trace its history back to 1547. It includes 25 hectares of Chateauneuf du Pape and parcels in Le Pied de Baud, lieu-dit Monalivet, and les Gallimardes, as well as 15 hectares in Cotes du Rhone. Making wine is still a family affair, and three brothers - Jean-Claude, Pierre and Bernard - run the property, with Jean-Claude's son Thierry, the current winemaker, trained in the tradition of the domaine since day one. The wines are a majority Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault completing the blends. Mont-Olivet produces a red and white Chateuneuf du Pape, and a red and white Cotes du Rhone. "The Cuvee du Papet" is only bottled in the most exceptional vintages.
