Located in the very center of the Italian peninsula, "the green heart of Italy" is landlocked by neighboring wine regions Tuscany, Lazio and Marche. Nearly 60% of the wine produced in Umbria is white, including the Orvieto DOC, which consists primarily of the Trebbiano grape and accounts for 80% of the region's total wine production. Umbria's other best known wines are powerful reds from the DOCGs of Montefalco Sagrantino and Torgiano Rosso Riserva. In total, there are 11 DOCs and 6 IGTs to go along with the 2 DOCGs.
