Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 91

The 2006 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands possesses ripe black raspberry and blackberry notes intermixed with subtle smoke, camphor, and truffle characteristics. Expansive and multidimensional with silky tannins as well as a seductive mouthfeel and texture, it should be consumed over the next 3-4 years.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
