Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 90

One of the finest examples of the 1982 vintage, this wine has been a reliable performer for over a decade. It is one of only two B.V. Private Reserves made during the decade of the eighties to merit an outstanding rating. The 1982 exhibits a saturated dark ruby color with only slight lightening at the edge. The nose offers copious quantities of sweet, jammy, red and black fruits intertwined with plenty of spicy, toasty new oak. Ripe, full-bodied, opulent, and fleshy, this sumptuously-styled Private Reserve is drinking well. It should continue to mature gracefully for 10-15 years.

A bit herbal, with plum and dried fruit aromas. Full-bodied and chewy. Slightly rustic but impressive.--Georges de Latour Private Reserve vertical. Drink now. 22,600 cases made.

This vintage was not supposed to disappoint...and it sure didn't. Notes of leather, cherry, nutmeg, boysenberry and oak on the nose. Tannins were relaxed and the finish was long enough. This wine was drinking perfectly and probably would have been past peak in another two years.

About This Producer

In 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Shortly thereafter, de Latour sold his thriving cream of tartar business, bought the four-acre ranch and founded Beaulieu Vineyard with the vision of making Napa Valley wines that would rival those of his native France. Today the winery continues to turn to innovative practices to craft wines in a bold, classic style. They have become a leader in clonal research, and the BV Clone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wines are highly acclaimed. Most recently a new state-of-the-art winery was completed within one of the original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional, wine-the longtime benchmark of Rutherford Cabernet.
