(60% pinot noir, 25% chardonnay and 15% pinot meunier; L1214420): Bright yellow. A complex bouquet evokes poached pear, Meyer lemon, chalky minerals and toasty lees. Fleshy pear and honey flavors show very good depth, picking up refreshing citrus pith and mineral nuances with air. Rich but energetic, with strong finishing cut and lingering spiciness.

Popped and drank over 3 hours as part of a champagne tasting. Compared to other wines, the pinot noir in this cuvee is evident as it seems richer and fuller than other wines in the lineup, and certainly compared to a blanc de blancs. Some green apple and bread dough on the nose and palate; very balanced and in a great place right now.

Excellent, full body, rich and depth champagne. Good acidity so it is well crafted and excellent for food pairing.

Wine Varietal: Champagne Blend

Three major varieties are used in a Champagne Blend: Chardonnay, which provides a smooth, creamy texture and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, which provide depth and backbone. Most Champagne is non-vintage (NV), produced with grapes from several different vintages. Vintage Champagnes are made in exceptional years and must contain 80% grapes from that year. Champagne, France is the only region permitted to put "Champagne" on the label.

Blanc de Blancs: Meaning "white of white," blanc de blancs Champagne is 100% Chardonnay.

Blanc de Noirs: Meaning "white of red," is 100% Pinot Noir or a Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier blend.

Rose Champagne: A small amount of still red wine is added during the blending process, creating a rose hue.
