The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley wraps around the palate with mocha, chocolate, violets and new leather. Despite its explosive personality, the straight Napa Valley bottling is pretty approachable for the vintage. I especially like the focus of the finish. In 2010, the Cabernet Sauvignon includes 6% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard sources are State Lane, Stagecoach and Mast.

Opaque purple. Cherry-vanilla, blackberry, floral oils and oak spices on the highly perfumed nose. Fleshy and expansive, offering appealingly sweet dark berry flavors that pick up spice and herb nuances with air. Shows very good energy on the finish, which features supple tannins and a hint of sweet chewing tobacco.

Dense, yet supple and graceful, with tiers of black fruit, blackberry, wild berry, subtle spice, cedar and black licorice flavors. Ends with firm, fine-grained tannins.

Site Blog: The Wine Forum APPEARANCE Clear, medium intensity ruby color, sediment more apparent (but not intrusive) in the final 2 glasses of wine. NOSE Clean, with medium+ aroma intensity of cherry, mocha, cola, licorice, and cassis with a developing nose PALATE Dry, medium acidity, medium+ tannin and body, and high alcohol, with pronounced flavor intensity of graphite, cassis, bing cherry, black raspberry, and mocha, this was a complex, and layered wine with deep flavor intensity and a long finish. CONCLUSIONS Very good quality, this is "par for the course" with Paul's wines as he acheives a high flavor intensity while still managing depth and freshness, Ready to drink now, but can benefit from 5-10 years more aging

About This Producer

When Paul Hobbs founded his eponymous winery in 1991, he set out to produce small lot, hand-crafted, vineyard designate wines. He began with just three - one Chardonnay, one Pinot Noir and one Cabernet Sauvignon.

Over the years, the small family of wines has grown to over a dozen as numerous new and historic vineyards have captured Hobbs' attention since that first vintage. The current wines are the result of years of perseverance, patience and experimentation in Hobbs' continuing adventure with wine. It is his great hope that the fruit-driven, complex wines he makes with his dedicated team will continue to appeal to many people around the globe.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
