(65% mourvedre, 29% grenache and 6% counoise; from 15- to 18-year-old vines grown in Aiken red soil studded with lava pebbles at an altitude of 2,700 feet; done in all neutral oak, mostly 600-liter French casks): Dark red. Smoky, savory aromas of raspberry, spices and tree bark. Juicy, intense and sharply delineated if on the light side, offering a captivating sugar/acid balance to the red fruit and tree bark flavors. Still a bit youthfully imploded but the very fine tannins suggest that this elegantly styled mourvedre-based wine will give early pleasure.
