Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 93+

The almost all Grenache 2010 God Only Knows (named as such because the full blend is unknown, or so we're told) is a complex, elegant version of this wine, with a Rayas-like perfume of kirsch, white pepper, stem, herbes de Provence and a gamey meatiness that comes out with air. Medium to full-bodied, silky and seamless on the palate, with juicy acidity, polished tannin and a light, clean texture, it lacks the back-end concentration of a top vintage, yet possesses brilliant purity and balance. It will benefit from short-term cellaring and impress for upwards of a decade.

Good medium red. Knockout aromas of musky raspberry, black olive, smoke, leather and brown sugar, lifted by an ineffable floral topnote. All silky texture and perfume in the mouth, showing brisk peppery lift to the flavors of raspberry and gunflint. The long, building finish boasts very suave tannins and lovely retention of fresh fruit. This wine reminded me of a Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine de Marcoux.

Supple, silky and expressive, offering black and green olive accents to the lively rose-infused rhubarb flavors. This has grace and charm.

Wine Varietal: Grenache

One of the most widely planted varieties in the world, Grenache is most well known as the base variety in wines from the Southern Rhone, such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Cotes-du-Rhone, and Gigondas. Grenache thrives in hot, arid climates all over the world particularly in the Mediterranean and Australia. Its origin is believed to be the Roussillon region of southern France (formerly Spain - where it is grown today and is known as Garnacha). Grenache is used in blends to round out Rhone-style reds to soften harsher varieties such as Syrah and Carignan. It is also used for rose wines. Typical descriptors for Grenache include raspberries, strawberries. black currants, black cherries, black olives, coffee, gingerbread, honey, leather, black pepper, tar, and herbes de Provence.
