Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91(+?)

(a Bordeaux blend based on 61% cabernet sauvignon): Good deep red-ruby. Captivating aromas of plum, kirsch , tobacco, pepper and cinnamon reminded me a bit of a Pomerol. Then quite dry and austere on the palate, in a distinctly Old World style. The musky flavors of plum, spices and dusty minerals are lifted by a lavender nuance. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that will require patience. Already shows a tangy quality but this is very shut down today. Capture's estate vineyard is located at an altitude of nearly 2,500 feet, in Alexander Valley. All three of its red wines were from fruit harvested on November 2, 4 and 9 in 2010.

About This Producer

Capture Wines' motto is "Bordeaux Tradition. Frontier Spirit." Reds and whites are produced by May-Britt and Denis Malbec (formerly PR Manager and Cellar Master at Chateau Latour) from the rolling hills and mountain peaks of California's North Coast. Perhaps best known for their exceptional Sauvignon Blancs, this dynamic team is also crafting Bordeaux-style red blends and Chardonnay, all from Sonoma County.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
