Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 88

Bright, dark, moderately saturated red. Aromas of currant, blueberry, licorice, mint and espresso. Juicy and pliant, with good energy and depth to the flavors of redcurrant, herbs and tobacco. Shows pliancy and sweetness in the middle palate, but turns a bit dry and green on the back, finishing with dusty tannins and herb and menthol notes.

About This Producer

Rudy Von Strasser has made wine since 1990 off his Diamond Mountain property, but his winemaking experience didn't start then. He was the first American intern at Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in 1985. Upon his return to Napa, Rudy served as enologist at Trefethen before becoming assistant winemaker at Newton Vineyards. Armed with this influential training, he began looking for his own property from which to craft his wines. He bought the former Roddis Estate Winery and launched his label. The portfolio has grown steadily to encompass several single vineyard wines and a rarely-produced Reserve blend. Varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. The style is classic Diamond Mountain.
