Professional Reviews For This Wine

Burghound | Rating: 89-91

A beautifully layered nose speaks of extract of red berry fruit, especially raspberries, before sliding gracefully into the rich, delicious and seductively textured flavors that possess a silky mouth feel and plenty of verve on the mineral-inflected and solidly persistent finish. Lovely and understated.

Dark red. Wild, leathery, musky nose offers a strong raspberry jam quality and a decadent aspect. Supple, sweet and full, but a bit leathery and roasted for this cuvee, with a distinctly creamy texture. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. Very rich but not my favorite style of Chambolle.

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny caresses the palate with layers of floral-infused red fruit. It is a supple, radiant Chambolle very much in the style of the vintage. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years.

About This Producer

Comte de Vogue is often considered the greatest wine estate in Chambolle-Musigny. It traces its history back to 1450 and amazingly, after 20 generations, the same family still runs the show. The domaine owns 7.25 hectares of the Le Musigny vineyard; these average 40 years old and are labeled Vieilles Vignes. The property also includes smaller holdings of Bonnes-Mares and Premier Cru Chambolle-Musigny. The blending of tradition and modernity in winemaking has resulted in wines that are revered by critics and wine lovers around the world.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
