Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 88

Dark red, a bit less bright than the 2010 release. Slightly roasted aromas of plum, currant, blackberry syrup and tobacco. Round and rich but brooding; plush in texture but not overly sweet, with plum, licorice and spice flavors accented by licorice and herbs. Finishes with more granular, dusty tannins than the 2010.

Plums, black currants and a hint of toasty oak. This is an excellent wine and good value.

About This Producer

Robert Keenan winery, founded in 1974, is situated in the rocky highlands of Spring Mountain. It is sited on the pre-prohibition property of the former Conradi Vineyard that operated here in the early part of the 20th century. Dedicated to three varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot - the second generation, family-owned winery makes nearly 10,000 cases annually. Nils Venge is winemaker.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
