Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 93

The 2009 Pinot Noir Garys' is an overt, juicy Pinot, with less in the way of aromatic complexity but more fruit than the Rosella's, largely owing to the warmer microclimate here. Sensual and caressing through to the finish, the Garys' bottling is another stunningly beautiful wine from Roar.

Rich and layered, with firm yet supple mineral, plum, cherry, blackberry and strawberry rhubarb flavors that are slow to unfold, gaining depth and dimension.

Allspice-infused cherries, with licorice and mocha on the finish. Very nice!

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
