Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89-90

(blended with 12% merlot, 7% petit verdot, 3% malbec and 2% cab franc): Good bright red-ruby. Cherry, redcurrant and flowers on the nose. Supple on entry, then a bit youthfully clenched in the middle, showing good grip to the flavors of cassis, minerals, licorice and herbs. Not hugely rich or fleshy but has good structure. A tad dry and peppery on the finish. This wine was to have been bottled in April.

About This Producer

Freemark Abbey crafts approximately 40,000 cases of wine each year. Currently they produce three Cabernets, including a Napa Valley Cabernet and the vineyard designated Bosche and Sycamore Cabernets. They also produce Merlot, Chardonnay, and Riesling, as well as several very limited production wines such as Viognier, Petite Sirah, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc. Given the right climate and harvesting conditions, the winery also makes a luscious late harvest Riesling known as "Edelwein Gold."

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
