Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91

(made from 49% cabernet sauvignon, 21% malbec, 17% merlot, 8% petit verdot, 4% syrah and 1% carmenere; 52% new oak): Inky ruby. Cherry-vanilla, blackcurrant, pipe tobacco and pungent Indian spices on the nose, with a sexy floral nuance gaining power with air. Smooth, appealingly sweet dark berry preserve flavors are brightened by tangy acidity and show very good clarity. Dusty tannins add grip to the finish, with the tobacco and vanilla notes echoing.

About This Producer

Intense, balanced, and distinctive wines are produced from this sustainably farmed estate, now owned by Bill Foley. The Chalk Hill AVA, located between Russian River and Alexander Valley, is at a higher elevation than both valleys, with leaner soils. Here, winemaker Lisa Bishop Forbes uses a minimalist approach in crafting Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and red blends that have been benchmarks of the appellation for three decades.
