Very rich yet elegant and stylish, with supple, detailed mineral, fresh earth, black berry, black and red licorice, with touches of nutmeg and spice, full bodied yet ending with a measure of delicacy and restraint. Grenache, Counoise and Mourvedre.

The 2009 Oublie is an unusual blend of equal parts Counoise, Grenache and Mourvedre. It is a gorgeous, sensual wine laced with ripe red fruit, dried herbs, flowers and spices. The layered, refined finish is especially beautiful.

(one-third each grenache, counoise and mourvedre): Vivid ruby. Red and dark berry aromas show impressive clarity, with notes of licorice, lavender and rose contributing complexity. Big and densely packed but light on its feet, offering intense raspberry, boysenberry and spice flavors. Juicy and precise on the finish, which clings with excellent tenacity. This wine's marriage of power and vivacity is impressive.

Our new addition to Booker is the "Oublié" (the forgotten one). This 34% Grenache, 33% Counoise and 33% Mourvedre blend brings a vibrant mix of fresh red fruits and undertones of blueberries to the palate. The mourvedre and syrah give it a balanced structure, with notes of black fruits and spice.

Really smooth tannins and silky mouthfeel. Fresh, rich red fruit, oak and a long finish. This is one of the extended barrel-aged wines from Booker to be consumed young, but it may benefit from another year or two in the bottle. Good wine.

Wine Varietal: Rhone Blend

"Rhone blends" are typically red wines comprised of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre in varying proportions. However, the red blends may also include any of the traditional varieties grown in the Rhone Valley such as the 14 allowed in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation. There are also Rhone blend roses which use the same varieties as their red counterparts. White Rhone blends are typically some combination of Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache blanc, and lesser varieties.
