Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 94

($95) Good full ruby-red. The most complex of this set of '08 pinots, offering aromas of raspberry, griotte cherry, smoked meat and underbrush. A step up in intensity and concentration, with bright acidity giving sharp definition to the dense flavors of raspberry and woodsmoke. Firmly built pinot with solid aging potential.

Compact, medium-bodied and pleasant, the 2008 Pinot Noir Joli Coeur offers blue and red fruits intermixed with hints of charcoal, burning embers and spice box.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
