Bright red. Deeper and darker in character than the Aidan, displaying black raspberry and cherry qualities and notes of licorice and black tea. Then brighter in the mouth, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and a touch of bitter cherry pit. Impressively focused pinot with strong finishing cut and persistent spiciness.

Still young and unevolved, the 2008 Pinot Noirs are restrained and slightly less impressive and concentrated than the 2007s at a similar age. They all appear to have outstanding potential with the exception of the generic Russian River cuvee. The latter wine possesses lots of sweet cola-infused berry fruit. The 2008s are softer than the 2007s. The heat spikes that occurred in September appear to have given these wines a more forward, plump style without the definition and minerality found in the 2007s.

Rough-hewn, but rich and intense, offering complex, concentrated raspberry, blackberry and cherry fruit that is pure and spicy. A touch of anise and red licorice mark the finish.

Wonderful wine had before dinner. Chilled in a Wine Fridge this wine immediately opened up with bright plum, light cream and bold fruit notes. Great finish and long silky texture end to end experience. Recommend!

About This Producer

The 25-acre biodynamically farmed DuMOL Estate Vineyard is located on an undulating east-facing slope of one of Russian River Valley's most famous ridgelines. From this classic site, and in tandem with some of the coastal area's finest growers, DuMOL crafts wines that fully capture the aromatics, flavors, and textures that exemplify their vineyard sites and the varietal characteristics in the purest and most precise form.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
