Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 92

($40) Bright ruby. Spicy scents of dark berries, cherry skin, cinnamon, black cardamom and olive tapenade. Very syrah, offering deep, sweet cassis and Indian spice flavors, along with an exotic note of candied violet. Tannins mount on the finish, which is spicy, sweet and very persistent. I'd put this one away for another three to five years.

An impressive effort, the 2007 Syrah Thompson Vineyard (50% whole clusters) exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a sweet perfume of blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, black olives, and meat juices, silky tannins, and a long finish.

About This Producer

Wells Guthrie is a fervent believer that great wine begins in the vineyard. In pursuit of this, Copain has sought out vineyards with expositions, soil compositions, climates, clones, and rootstock selections capable of producing wines of distinction and singular character.

Copain's winemaking practices aim to express each site's unique qualities. Copain wines are highlighted by lower alcohols, natural vibrant acidity, gentle handling of the fruit and wine, native yeast ferments and minimal use of new oak.
