($95) Good deep ruby. Sexy, expressive aromas of plum, tobacco, stone and earth, with a wild, meaty nuance. Sweet and lush but not overdone, with harmonious acidity giving shape and energy to the redcurrant, tobacco and game flavors. A rather suave cabernet that conveys real soil character. Finishes impressively long, with hints of mocha and nutty oak and nicely integrated tannins.

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9.5% Petit Verdot) is one of the more remarkable bargains for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Like most vintages of Seavey (the 1990 and 1991 are still very young wines), it will require patience. Dense purple opaque to the rim, it reveals a stunning nose of burning embers, soy, blackberries, coffee, and cassis along with a hint of scorched earth. It is a true blockbuster, concentrated, massive Cabernet that should be forgotten for 5-10 years, and drunk over the following four decades. Seavey's 2007s could be compared to some of the Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignons from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Taut and focused, dry and savory, with a minerally graphite-slate edge that joins the dense blackberry, wild berry, anise and black licorice notes. Full-bodied and tightly wound, this is most impressive on the finish, where the flavors are long and pure.

Speechless. I've never had such a perfect bottle of wine. Slightly tannic, but give it a few years. I cant begin to describe the pleasures my mouth had while enjoying this wine. Perfection.

About This Producer

The flagship offering from Seavey is their Cabernet Sauvignon known for its classic Bordeaux styling, richness, and longevity, with some vintages achieving 30-40 years of cellaring potential. This wine is built for strength and ageability, with long macerations and three years of barrel and bottle aging prior to release.

Seavey wines are very well-received by critics and fans alike, and since the inaugural 1990 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, all Seavey Vineyard grapes are used exclusively for the estate produced wines.
