($37; 13% of this wine is from a list of grapes too lengthy and obscure to name) Good deep red-ruby. Very ripe aromas of crushed berries and violet lifted by pepper. Suave on entry, then sweet and thick in the middle but energetic, with reticent flavors of crushed berries and wild herbs. This broad, deep but youthfully backward zinfandel finishes with a fine dusting of sweet tannins. Very different from the Howell Mountain bottling but equally interesting.Author: Stephen Tanzer
