Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 95

There are three 'iconâ? wines in the portfolio. The 2006 Aphrodite is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a vineyard facing Torbreck's Les Amis property. It was barrel-fermented and aged in 100% new French oak resulting in a super-rich, fragrant, complex Cabernet. The nose offers up aromas of toasty oak, pencil lead, spice box, black currant, and blackberry liqueur leading to an opulent wine with gobs of succulent flavor, well concealed ripe tannin, and impeccable balance.

About This Producer

The "two hands" are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized regions within Australia. In 2000 they started with just 17 tons of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the beginning the wines were very well received at home and abroad, with a healthy stream of reviews, culminating in 2004 with Robert Parker pronouncing Two Hands as "the finest negociant operation south of the equator."

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
