Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 94+

The mid-level 2006 Numanthia is a deeper color than both vintages of Termes. It displays a brooding bouquet of wood smoke, Asian spices, violets, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, rich, powerful, and incipiently complex, it merits 5-7 years of additional bottle age and will offer prime drinking from 2015 to 2026.

Firm tannins frame black cherry, mineral, licorice and herbal notes in this chewy red. Well-proportioned, with lively acidity and a lovely floral finish. Tannic now, but the fruit should emerge with age.

From Lani & Mark Firm Tannins frame black cherry, mineral, licorice and herbal notes in this chewy red. Well-proportioned, with lively acidity and a lovely floral finish. Tannic now, but the fruit should emerge with age. Best from 2011 through 2017.(6/09) Reaching a high point in 2004 with 98 points in the Wine Advocate, it should be interesting to see how this 2006 - a more aromatically expressive, fresher tasting vintage compared to the '05 - fares versus the annointed, long gone 2004. 100% Tinto del Pais (Tempranillo). This one will not langush on the shelves for long, Tremendous power, along with finesse and elegance.

Wine Varietal: Tempranillo

Tempranillo is Spain's noble grape. Grown mostly in northern Spain, some of the best Tempranillo wine comes from the regions of Rioja and the Ribera del Duero. This grape enjoys cooler climates and is sensitive to pests and adverse weather conditions. While Tempranillo can be bottled alone, it is often blended with other Spanish grapes such as Grenache, Carignan, and more recently, Cabernet Sauvignon. Tempranillo is also grown in the Duero region of Portugal where the grapes are commonly blended to make Port. Tempranillo wines may be consumed young, but are regarded as being at their best when aged. There are a multitude of synonyms for Tempranillo depending on where it is grown. Typical descriptors for Tempranillo include berries, plum, tobacco, vanilla, leather, meat and herbs.
