Very rich and polished, with layers of black Mission fig, bittersweet ganache, hoisin sauce, melted black licorice, Black Forest cake and currant confiture, all stretched over ample but fine-grained tannins. Really long, with ample grip for the vintage. Grenache and Mourvedre. 380 cases made.

($82) Dark red. Pungent, spicy scents of red berry liqueur and kirsch, along with deeper mocha and licorice qualities. Energetic and gently sweet, with deep red and dark berry flavors underscored by zesty minerals and firmed by dusty tannins. Gains weight and power with air, finishing spicy and broad, with excellent sappy cling and a strong echo of dark fruit. I'd let this one rest for a few years.

A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvedre, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet is big, muscular, and dense with full body as well as meaty black and blue fruits interwoven with notions of new saddle leather, earth, truffles, and spice. Possessing superb length in addition to stunning purity, this excellent 2006 does not require hasty drinking.

Site Blog: Unidentified Appellation A hearty, but gorgeous vintage for Quet, flexing its Mourvedre muscles, but keeps things frankly enshrouded in Grenache fruit throughout the tasting experience. There?s a sense of seriousness to the kirsch, garrigue, grilled meat and olive paste flavors that is undeniable and entirely formidable. A wine that is loaded w/ depth, tannins and blockbuster potential

About This Producer

Mas de Boislauzon is owned and run by brother and sister Daniel and Christine Chaussy, the sixth generation of family wine growers in the region. The pair produces Chateauneuf du Pape and Cotes du Rhone wines from 25 ha. of AOC vineyards.

Vines are grown on calcareous soils with a high percentage of galets (round stones typical of the region), and vineyards are tended using traditional viticulture techniques. The Chaussy siblings age their wines in both neutral barrels and concrete vats. Red wines are blends of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Carignan. White wines are blends of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, and Bourboulenc.

Wine Varietal: Rhone Blend

"Rhone blends" are typically red wines comprised of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre in varying proportions. However, the red blends may also include any of the traditional varieties grown in the Rhone Valley such as the 14 allowed in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation. There are also Rhone blend roses which use the same varieties as their red counterparts. White Rhone blends are typically some combination of Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache blanc, and lesser varieties.
