Shares the Garys' profile of understated flavors built around forest floor, mushroom, dried berry, sage and anise flavors. Drinking well now.

($68) Deep red. Strong, floral bouquet suggests cherry, plum, rose and violet. Supple dark berry flavors offer good depth and chewy texture, picking up baking spices and cracked pepper with air. A smooth, round and supple pinot, with ripe fruit and good chewy persistence.

Collector Reviews For This Wine

Trust Rating: 98

15% ABV. Opened and poured through the Vinturi into a decanter, followed over three and one half hours. Initial nose of plum and racy, laser lined cherry with some ripe cranberry as well. On the palate this wine shows flavors of rich black cherry with some tart blueberry lining. Two hours in and some candied apple flavors develop. Slight earth spices and vanilla show throughout and into the finish. Some toast and vanilla on the finish. There is a bit of bitterness on the back of the throat. Enjoyable on its own without food. Drink now with an extra decant or hold 1-2 years.

About This Producer

Kosta-Browne started its supersonic trek to celebrity status in 1997, when pals Dan Kosta and Michael Browne pooled their restaurant tips and purchased a half ton of Pinot Noir, a manual crusher-de-stemmer and a used barrel. Adding the business and investment-savy Chris Costello gave Kosta Browne the requisite resources to expand into the Pinot force they are today. Fruit is sourced from top-notch vineyards in the Russian River, Sonoma Coast, and Santa Lucia Highlands. Their philosophy is to make Pinots that express intense flavor and the "sweet spot" of their respective vineyards. In addition to their vineyard-designate wines, Kosta Browne also produces two blends: one from the Sonoma Coast and the other from Russian River.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
