Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 88-90

Good deep red. Subdued but pure aromas of strawberry and raspberry. Supple and sweet, with ripe, harmonious acidity framing the flavors of pomegranate, smoke and cinders. Finishes with noteworthy definition and grip. (This was much more successful than a rather tart sample of old-vines Morey that preceded it; Laurent assured me that the "higher-acid" portion of this cuvee would be declassified to his Tradition range.)

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
