($93-$105) Bright ruby-red. Sweet cherry dominates the nose. Suave, sweet and spherical; a slightly high-toned fruit bomb, with flavors of cherry, blackberry, currant, crushed rocks and blackberry. An intriguing floral quality gives this very ripe wine a light touch and excellent back-end lift. Very easy to taste today, but this superconcentrated wine is likely to close down in the bottle.

Still tight but promises to be a big wine. Tannic but should smooth out in couple of years.

Dark purple with a great nose of cassis, tobacco, leather and a hint of blackberry. Very tight, firm tannins and plenty of acidity. Even with double decanting, it took some time in the glass to open up and was a pleasure to drink. HUGE potential with a few more years.

Site Blog: darlingville Quite pungent on the nose with rich, dark berry aromas. Somewhat high in tannins for my taste as a standalone wine, but very well executed.

I thought this Red Bordeaux was amazing. Smooth and satisfying with a great finish.

About This Producer

The vineyards of Chateau Bellevue are located around a hilltop of hard rock, on one of the slopes of Saint Emilion. At the hill's summit on the chalk plateau, the vineyards neighbor the Premier Grand Cru Classe estates of Beausejour-Becot and Beausejour Duffau-Lagarosse. The vineyards are also adjacent to those of Premier Grand Cru Classe estate Chateau Angelus at the base of the hill. At the top of the slope, the soil (of marine origin), is rich in magnesium and iron and it contains quite a high percentage of clay. Closer to the base of the hillside the soils are sandy with a little chalk and therefore more acidic. This diversity of soils and their variety of terroirs all contribute to the complexity and nobility of the wines produced by Chateau Bellevue.
