International Wine Cellar | Rating: 88

($70) Full ruby-red. Superripe aromas of cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate. Sweet and pliant, with black fruit flavors complicated by mineral and licorice notes. Finishes with big, dusty tannins that turned a bit gritty with air. But this has better fruit to support its chocolatey oak component than the winery's Lone Canyon bottling.

Site Blog: Vinography: A Wine Blog Dark garnet in the glass, this wine has a rich nose of cedar, black cherry, and espresso aromas. In the mouth it is bold and beautifully textured, with strong flavors of black cherry, cedar, sawdust and a hint of black pepper making things spicy as the tight young tannins begin to grab the edges of the tongue. A long finish completes the elegant and dynamic package. A little time for the tannins to mellow will make this even more enjoyable, but the impatient drinker will be rewarded as well.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
